GATX Capital wanted to create a corporate identity lobby sign that showed strength, but was in contrast to their concrete walls. They also didn't want just a rectangle with their name on it. What happened was something beautiful. Although this photo does not do it justice, the GATX logo was recreated out of inch thick solid cherry wood.

The letters were routed and beveled in order with proper spacing using a single board, so the grain flows properly through the entire piece. They were then stained and polished to bring out the colors and the grain.

The GATX is 12" tall.
